A team of co-hosts that includes Maria LaRosa and Mike Bettes will join “AMHQ (America’s Morning Headquarters) with Sam Champion” with additional co-hosts to be announced soon.
ATLANTA, February 18, 2014 – The Weather Channel, the world's leading weather authority, is set to premiere its new flagship live morning show “AMHQ with Sam Champion” on Monday, March 17. The series will air weekdays from 7:00-10:00 a.m. ET. The Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning weather anchor, who also serves as managing editor, will anchor the three-hour weekday show alongside a team of co-hosts that includes meteorologists Maria LaRosa and Mike Bettes live from The Weather Channel headquarters in Atlanta. Champion, who spent a combined 25 years at ABC’s flagship O&O WABC-TV and “Good Morning America,” will serve as a trusted source viewers can depend on to forecast the day ahead.
True to the network’s “It’s Amazing Out There” branding, “AMHQ” will launch on St. Patrick’s Day, one of the biggest outdoor celebration days in the United States, with live reporting from New York and the Chicago River, which is dyed green annually for the holiday. “AMHQ” will also celebrate the transition from a long, hard cold winter by counting down to the highly anticipated official start of Spring just days later. “Wake Up With Al,” which airs weekdays from 5:30-7:00 a.m. ET and is hosted by Al Roker and Stephanie Abrams, will serve as the “AMHQ” lead-in.
Executive produced by Scott Warren, “AMHQ with Sam Champion” aims to energize and prepare viewers for the day, not only forecasting the weather, but looking ahead at the news and events that will unfold and shape their days. The Weather Channel team of trusted experts will cover every facet of news, including business, sports, cultural events, technology, health and wellness, all told uniquely through our expertise in forecasting what the day may hold.
In addition to Champion, The Weather Channel audiences will wake up to familiar faces LaRosa and Bettes, who, with a combined 15 years at the network, will serve as co-anchors of “AMHQ.” LaRosa, who joined The Weather Channel in 2010, and Emmy award-winning Bettes, who joined the network in 2003, will bring their experience and expertise as co-anchors of “Morning Rush” to “AMHQ.” In addition, the show will feature three additional hosts who will be announced in the coming weeks.
“This team just has amazing chemistry,” said David Clark, president of The Weather Channel network. “Together with an incredible bench of experts and contributors, we have created the morning show for the rest of us - a fast-moving, forward-looking, information-based hub to get you out the door informed, energized and ready to tackle your day.”
