WunderStation Uses the World’s Largest Network of Personal Weather Stations to Provide an In-Depth Look at Neighborhood Weather Data
SAN FRANCISCO (September 4, 2014) – Weather Underground today announced the launch of WunderStation for iPad. Weather enthusiasts and weather station owners alike have a new go-to weather app for their iPad. WunderStation offers a unique perspective on data from individual weather stations within Weather Underground’s network of more than 37,000 stations.
The WunderStation App allows iPad users to view, analyze, share, and compare data from personal weather stations across the world through a streamlined interface consisting of customizable charts and graphics. Not only can weather station owners closely monitor their station’s data and operational status on the go, but anyone can access real-time weather data from any station in the network. With the ability to customize the display dashboard, the WunderStation app provides a personalized weather experience for each user, allowing them to prioritize the information that they individually care about.
“WunderStation is unique not only for the breadth and depth of the weather data made available, but also its focus on beautiful data visualization that makes the information easy to understand. Each widget is designed to display data like an infographic with the option to expand and dig deeper. So whether you own a personal weather station or just like to geek out on the weather, WunderStation is the app for you!" says Allan Hui, vice president of product at Weather Underground.
Started in 2001, the Weather Underground Personal Weather Station network was created to address the growing need for meteorologists to gain access to more granular data. This unique network allows Weather Underground to utilize weather data from actual neighborhoods, not just from the closest airport. With the data supplied by these stations, Weather Underground is able to provide users with extremely localized forecasts. The WunderStation App takes the sharing of this data one step further as users can now customize how they view their local weather.
Notable features of the app include:
· Configurable dashboard display: overlay as many or as few measurements as you like
· In-depth 10-day and hourly forecasts including temperature, feels like, dew point, pressure, humidity, chance of precipitation, cloud cover, wind speed and direction, sunrise and sunset
· Historical highs and lows for the past three years
· For PWS owners: Update your personal weather station's status to better serve others viewing your station's data
