Senior Counsel, The Weather Company
As senior counsel at The Weather Company, an IBM Business (Weather), Jerald Dotson is responsible for providing legal counsel and transactional support for both day-to-day and special activities of the company. Dotson serves as lead counsel for Weather’s consumer digital products and services, with primary responsibility for legal matters related to the development, publishing, distribution, and marketing of websites and apps for mobile, desktop, wearables and other platforms from the company’s consumer brands.
Prior to this role, Dotson served at Weather as senior legal counsel. During his time at Weather, he has supported advertising sales and operations, business development, research, marketing, and data licensing functions, in addition to supporting consumer products and services. Dotson was also a key contributor when IBM announced its intention to acquire the company in 2015.
Dotson came to Weather from The Walt Disney Company, where he served as executive counsel of business and legal affairs for five years. He has extensive experience in transactional intellectual property matters and all interactive areas, including Internet, mobile/wireless, video games, digital music and interactive television. Prior to his career in law, he worked as an electrical engineer and holds two patents related to optical fiber technology.
Dotson received his juris doctor degree from the University of California at Los Angeles. He also holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.
